We are living in an era where we no longer want to put chemicals onto our bodies. The problem is the traditional products we are used to smell good and feel good, but we know that’s largely due to the harmful fillers and nasties these products contain.
Never before have consumers had access to so much information about the chemicals and formulations of everyday products.
Two of the most common products in our conventional shopping are products we use every single day – toothpaste and deodorant.
We want our pearly whites to sparkle, and to keep our underarms fresh all day long. But what is the solution? In recent times we have seen many great, effective natural products come on to the market that really work.
The regular toothpaste we find in every supermarket contains ingredients like fluoride, triclosan, sodium laureth sulphate and artificial sweeteners. These heavy chemicals found in toothpaste can cause a variety of diseases from thyroid problems and arthritis to liver disease. Which is truly frightening!

Extra tip for optimal brushing:
When brushing your teeth, position the bristles at an angle of 45 degrees near the gum line. Both the gum line and the tooth surface should be in contact with the bristles. Brush the outer surfaces of the teeth using a back-and-forth, up-and-down motion, making sure to be done gently in order to avoid bleeding. To clean the inside surfaces of the teeth and gums, place the bristles at a 45-degree angle again and repeat the back-and-forth, up-and-down motion. Lastly, brush the surfaces of your tongue and the roof of your mouth to remove bacteria, which might cause bad breath. Plus – thoroughly rinse your mouth with water after eating to minimize the amount of food that would serve as substrate for the bacteria.
We all by now know the dangers of commercial deodorant. Some of the ingredients in conventional deodorants and antiperspirants are chemicals or metals that block the pores and stop you from sweating, like aluminium, this is the main ingredient most supermarket deodorants. When aluminum ions are drawn into the cells that line the sweat ducts, causing the cells to swell and squeezing the ducts closed so sweat cannot get out. Aluminum, also a known neurotoxin has been linked to breast cancer and neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.
