We live in a beauty age! Anti aging and beauty enhancing products are all around us… from moisturizers to lipsticks, face-masks, teeth whitening strips, the latest lash lengthening mascara and so much in between. But how do we know which products are right for us and ultimately what are we willing to spend our cold hard cash on?
For me it’s about nourishment and choosing products that will actually help my skin to feel healthy from the inside out and the outside in! So today I visited my ‘go to’ health shop – Harvest Wholefoods in Grey Lynn.
This store has one of the biggest beauty and cosmetics sections I’ve ever seen in a health & organics shop. I’m a fan of their Thompson’s Organic Magnesium and their Solgar Skin ‘Hair and Nails’ formula.
This visit I chatted to their naturopath Cath about her favourite beauty buys on shelves right now. Here’s what she had to say…
We have a lot of young mums coming into the store. Some have uneven skin post pregnancy and are looking for natural products to restore their skin. We also have a lot of mature skin types that tend towards dryer skin. For both I recommend a Buckthorn Omega 7 capsules which help to lubricate the skin from the inside. It’s anti-inflammatory and great for rashes and particularly dry skin. This is a completely natural product and a great part of your beauty regime.
A popular product right now is La Mav BB Creme which is a great way to start your beauty look pre-makeup. It contains vitamin C, natural sunscreen and the formula is colour adapting so anyone can wear it.
To keep skin healthy I really like a good quality mineral makeup range as it won’t clog pores. We now stock Eco Minerals which is a pure 100% mineral range with no fillers, additives, parabens or Nanoparticles. It’s also certified vegan and anti cruelty. I particularly like the Perfection range which is suited to dry or mature skin. There are 12 foundation shades in total and we can help to colour match in store. This is affordable priced at $39 and we have biodegradable eco refills available.
For a long lasting natural lip colour that won’t dry your lips – I really like the Burt’s Bees range. They are rich in colour and have a pretty selection of pink tones. Best of all they don’t dry out your lips!
